Hooray for health care!! …Right?
I do need to rant about this quickly because it’s been bothering me. It drives me nuts that everyone’s instantly like, “Hooray for health care!” Me, personally, I’m still learning about the bill and what it means for us, the pros, the cons, etc, so I’m in no position to cheer/jeer. And I’m willing to bet that the majority of people I see on Facebook raving about how exciting this is really know nothing about the bill. I certainly don’t know a lot, so I’m keeping my mouth shut. This same sort of thing happened around the primaries… People were all about Obama! Why? …Uh, because… change. That’s why. Yeah, not a reason. And while “health care for all” is a lovely concept with a nice ring to it, the actual bill itself goes a bit deeper than that. Example… what happens to the folks who can’t afford health care? Will doctors be spread too thin? Will the quality of health care be appropriate? Can that be monitored? I could be way off base about this, and maybe everyone who is raving about it really DOES know what they’re talking about. I’m willing to bet, though, that a lot of Obama folks couldn’t tell you about anything else he’s done between winning the election and being tough on getting this bill passed. Not so much because he hasn’t done anything, but more because once the initial excitement was over, they moved on to the next big thing.
People just need something to rave about, but, see above, I’m no exception.
